Wood Fired Jianshui Zitao Clay Teapot Bian Xishi Style with Carved Lotus - 80ml

We thought that we had sold all of these years ago! Imagine our surprise when we found one more in storage. These went FAST when we released them. Someone is going to get lucky with this one!

This is a beautiful modern wood fired Jianshui teapot. This is part of a collection that we had custom made to our exact specifications. The lotus is hand carved.

Wood fired Jianshui teapots are really gorgeous. They use a natural wood burning kiln to make these. It can take anywhere from a few days to a month of kiln time to finish. Most pieces do not last through the wood firing process. They break and are discarded. This teapot was fired for 5 days.

Wood firing Jianshui clay creates unique patterns. The smoke and inconsistent heat create unique colors and patterns. Additionally the smoke carries pitch from the wood that can settle on the teapot and create a sparkling effect only noticeable when wet. It's quite difficult to take a proper picture of this. Each teapot is unique. They are each one of a kind.

Jianshui clay teapots are single fired and unglazed. This is a true clay which lacks any sand. The natural minerals in the clay will enhance the flavor of your tea. Jianshui is in Yunnan, and the clay used in these teapots comes from the same mountains that grow puerh tea trees. We appreciate that connection. We blogged about this unique town here.

This is an unglazed 100% wood fired teapot. A common trend is to fake wood firing with creatively applied ceramic glaze. This is the real deal.

This teapot is 80ml in volume. ( Volume measurements are rounded to the nearest tenth. This may hold a few ml more or less. ) This measures approximately 10cm from tip of spout to end of handle and is around 5.5cm tall. The spout has a 9 hole filter. This teapot comes with a custom bag and hard cover box.
